Deceptive Dan may not look like a tough opponent at first, but don’t be fooled. These players are consistent, mentally strong, and tough competitors. They keep making balls and force you to beat them.

Strengths

  • Consistent & Resilient – They rarely miss and stay in the rally.

  • Tough Competitor – They fight for every point, no matter the situation.

  • Mentally Strong – They don’t give up and force you to play your best.

Weaknesses

  • Lack of Power – They may not hit big shots.

  • Predictable Play Style – They rely on keeping the ball in play rather than attacking.

  • Unorthodox Technique – Their strokes may not be technically sound, but they are still effective.

How to play against Deceptive Dan?

Be Patient & Observe

  • Do NOT judge them based on appearance or technique.

  • Watch their previous matches if possible—see what shots they like and dislike.

  • Expect long rallies and be ready to work for every point.

Identify Weaknesses and Attack Smartly

  • Look for patterns in their game.

  • Move them around – force them out of position and create attacking chances.

  • Wait for the right moment to go for a winner instead of rushing the point.

Stay Mentally Strong

  • Never assume the match will be easy. Stay focused from start to finish.

  • Take one point at a time and respect their ability to compete.

  • If you get frustrated, reset and stay patient – they want you to make mistakes!

Practice Drills to Prepare

Endless Rally:

  • Play points with the aim to hit the ball centrally with low pace.

  • The goal: Be patient, move them around, and wait for a chance to attack.

Unorthodox Ball Practice:

  • Hit different types of balls (floaty shots, slices, slow balls).

  • The goal: Stay balanced, control space, and take time away from them.

Shadow Play and Visualisation:

  • Imagine playing against Deceptive Dan and visualize long rallies.

  • Work on staying calm and making good shot choices under pressure.
