Setting Goals For Tennis Success

Setting Goals for Tennis Success: A Guide for Young Players

Do you or your player have a clear idea of what they want to achieve on the court? Are they going into every match just trying to win, or do they have specific goals for each game?

To help young players feel a sense of achievement, it’s important to set realistic goals for every match. Make sure they have a clear target, not just for the tournament but also for each term or year.

One way to do this is by using the SMART principle: goals should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timed.

For younger players, simplify it. For example:

“Today, Malcolm, I want you to focus on giving your best energy at all times.”

“Today, Sarah, make sure you go through your routine and plan your serve each time.”

By setting clear and achievable goals, players can feel more confident and see real progress!
